On my last day in Tengchong, Simon organized a huge vegan feast at a local restaurant. 40 people showed up to see me off! I sprung for the meal -- 40 people -- $30 -- and more food then we could all eat. This is a typical restaurant scene -- you can see Simon's head in the background, right now he's haggling over ingredients and recipes. |

This has to be the most delicious vegetable I've ever tasted -- the tenderness of an asparagus tip, but a more subtle flavor. It grows in marshes around the lake. |

Some local foods, little (live) fish from the lake -- my guess is they go straight into the deep fryer. There's also two kinds of forest fungus. |
